On Saturday 9 September 2017,our students took part in the exciting Blackbutt Avocado Festival.

What a day it was, as students gathered in Muir Street to take part in the Festival street march through Blackbutt to the showgrounds.

The Ken Mills Street Parade started at 11am, travelling down Muir Street, into Coulson Street and then Hart Street and following the rail trail past Nukku Nook to the showground arena.

The theme for 2017 was All Things Avocado – Avo Go, with Blackbutt showcasing a vibrant, colourful event featuring the district’s agriculture, history and culture.

Blackbutt State School’s dynamic music teacher, Mr Adam Friend, wrote a play for our students to perform.   Mr Friend was in close communication with Mr Charles, one of the members of the Blackbutt Avocado Festival’s organizing committee in the creation of the play.

Together they created some plywood characters used in the play performance.  The characters were painted by the children for the event.

The play featured cute avocado characters like little Pip, Big Hass and Avo Jo, with some great acting, singing and dancing by our students from Prep to Year 6. he play featured cute avocado characters like little Pip, Big Hass and Avo Jo, with some great acting, singing and dancing by our students from Prep to Year 6.

Staff member, Mr Matthew Wild, also featured with his guitar.  The play had an important message-a natural avocado is best.

Principal Mrs Gayle Williamson said she was very proud of the school’s great performance and its involvement in the Blackbutt Avocado Festival.

“Our students presented a wonderful performance on the day after rehearsing over the past few weeks,” she said.
