The centre starts this week on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon from 3.00pm to 4.00pm. Three Teacher Aides-Mrs Kylie Packer, Mrs Carissa Barrow and Mrs Jodie Heilig will assist the children with their homework activities. Mr Matthew Wild will be a TA available to replace Homework Centre TAs if/when they are absent.
I expect students who participate in the homework centre to follow the school's Code of Conduct and behave well at this time.
Our Homework Centre Team-Mr Baldwin (teacher mentor/supervisor), Mrs Heilig- TA, Mrs Barrow TA and Mrs Packer TA
Mr Michael Baldwin will provide oversight, guidance and support to the teacher aides working in the
Homework Centre program. Mr Baldwin will liaise with class teachers to source homework activities for students in the homework centre. He will:
- report to me;
- I, as principal, and at times Mr Baldwin, will be onsite to provide oversight, guidance and support for teacher aides. This may include, but is not limited to the following:
- provision of additional materials for students, who are unable to, or do not have
homework activities to complete; - guidance for teacher aide supervision of students; and
- developing supportive learning environments and effective behaviour management
practices; and - following all school processes and procedures as they relate to Homework Centres and the school.
The Homework Centre teacher aides will:
- report to me;
- supervise small groups of students (up to a max of 8), undertaking homework activities designed by a teacher, during Homework Centre operations;
- implement the established routines, procedures and protocols that ensure the effective operation of the Homework Centre;
- follow all school processes and procedures;
- display respect and empathy for students with high level needs and confidentiality, tact, reliability and sensitively to students and their families; and
- prepare materials, food and snacks for students (where applicable).
As participation in Homework Centres is voluntary, parents/caregivers will determine the attendance pattern of their child/children that best suits their needs. There is no expectation that families must attend every session, with families determining how long they stay during a session. I will not be mandating the registration of a student in our Homework Centre program, for example, to use the program as a school disciplinary measure.
My thanks to the Mrs Lisa Hay and Mrs Jodie Heilig for preparing the healthy snack and providing it to the centre from the P&C.
